Benefits of Our Anesthesia Options

Multiple sedation choices allow us to tailor your experience to your comfort level and procedure complexity.

Understanding Your Anesthesia Options

We offer several anesthesia methods, ranging from local anesthesia alone to full general anesthesia. The best option depends on your procedure complexity, anxiety level, and personal preferences. Local anesthesia numbs the surgical area in all cases, with additional sedation layered on based on your needs.
For mild anxiety or simple procedures, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) provides relaxation while keeping you conscious and in control. IV sedation offers deeper relaxation with little to no memory for moderate to high anxiety or complex procedures. General anesthesia, where you’re completely asleep and unaware, is available for extensive procedures or significant dental anxiety. Dr. Deljavan’s extensive anesthesia training and state licensing ensure safe, expertly administered sedation with continuous vital sign monitoring throughout your procedure.

Your Anesthesia Options Explained

Local Anesthesia

Numbs only the surgical area while you remain fully conscious. Appropriate for simple procedures and used in combination with all other sedation methods.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Administered through a comfortable nasal mask, nitrous oxide helps you relax while remaining conscious. It works within minutes, wears off quickly, and is ideal for simple to moderately complex procedures or patients with a strong gag reflex.

Non-IV Sedation

Combines oral relaxation medication with nitrous oxide. Costs less than IV sedation and doesn’t require an IV, but you’ll need someone to drive you home.

IV Moderate Sedation

Medication administered through an IV allows you to fall asleep and feel deeply relaxed. You may drift in and out of consciousness with little to no memory of the procedure. Appropriate for a wide range of procedures and anxiety levels.

Office-Based General Anesthesia

You fall completely asleep with no awareness or memory of the procedure. This is the most popular choice for wisdom teeth removal and is available for any oral surgery. Your vital signs are continuously monitored throughout.

What to Expect with Sedation

Pre-Procedure

During your consultation, we’ll review your medical history, medications, and health conditions. We’ll discuss your anxiety level and recommend the most appropriate anesthesia option. You’ll receive detailed pre-operative instructions, including fasting requirements if applicable.

During Your Procedure

We continuously monitor your vital signs throughout surgery, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. Dr. Deljavan adjusts your sedation level as needed to ensure your comfort.

Recovery

After your procedure, you’ll rest in our office while sedation wears off. Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes, while IV sedation and general anesthesia require someone to drive you home. We provide detailed post-operative instructions before you leave.

Yes. IV sedation is very safe when administered by a qualified professional like Dr. Deljavan, who has completed extensive hospital-based anesthesia training and maintains state licensing. We continuously monitor your vital signs and maintain rigorous safety standards.
With IV moderate sedation, you may drift in and out of sleep with little memory. With general anesthesia, you’re completely asleep with no awareness or memory. Dr. Deljavan will recommend the appropriate level based on your procedure and preferences.
For IV sedation or general anesthesia, you’ll need to fast for 6-8 hours before surgery. For local anesthesia or nitrous oxide only, eating beforehand is usually fine. We’ll provide specific instructions during your consultation.
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes, and you can drive yourself home. IV sedation and general anesthesia require 1-2 hours of in-office recovery, and you’ll need someone to drive you home. Most patients feel back to normal within 24 hours.

Patient Stories

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Deljavan and the staff here. Everyone was very kind, informative and helpful. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted after many years of putting it off out of fear. My bottom left tooth was impacted and extremely close to the nerve but my recovery has been smooth and painless. The swelling was very minimal. My friends and family couldn’t believe how quick I bounced back I would highly recommend this place to anyone. These guys know what they’re doing!
–  Ally H.
Just had my tooth extracted and met the Dr and the staff for the first time. Extremely nice staff, the dental assistant was very nice and fully explained what to expect. The Dr was very polite and knows his stuff, he goes into detail and answered all my questions. The procedure went great with no issues. Highly recommend this office and Dr! I go back in 4 months for my implant. Great experience!
– Dan F.
This place is truly there to help people. For anyone truly terrified of the dentist, trust these people! The doctor and staff are amazing. I called them in tears because of my fear/anxieties. I told them something was going on (who knew it was actually quite serious) and they got me in that day, no questions. I’m sure I showed up looking a mess, because fear, but they were kind, gentle but very much putting the wheels on to get the situation going. The surgery went smoothly and I appreciate them daily. In the 10+ years I’ve dealt with broken teeth, I never thought I’d be brave enough to get it taken care of. So thank you again! They are very thoughtful but thorough. I will be going back for the wisdom teeth. Do recommend!
– Beth L.
The doctor and his staff did a great job performing my procedure. It went very smooth. They provided me with printouts for before and after care. I just left the clinic. I was very comfortable before and after the surgery. The clinic is clean and the doctor is highly professional. The staff were communicative and professional.
– R. S.
I got my wisdom teeth removed here and honestly, I’m so glad I found them! I’m incredibly nervous about dentistry in general, but they made me feel incredibly comfortable with the process and I felt confident in their abilities after discussing it with them. They got me in the same week of my consultation even! I greatly appreciated the staff members making jokes with me throughout the process as well. TLDR: incredibly competent, kind, and efficient. Highly recommend them to anyone, especially if you’re a nervous nelly like me!
– Shawna R.
Everyone here was professional and friendly. They will answer your questions. My oral surgery, removal of wisdom teeth, was done very, very quickly, 30 minutes. I opted to be awake for it because I have no fear of such things, and am rather curious about what goes on. They were very efficient and knew exactly what they were doing. I was told several times what to expect, how to prepare, and what I would need to do to recover. Written instructions were also sent home which I found very helpful because my memory is more like a sieve than a bowl. Anyhow, if you are needing oral surgery done, this is a good place to go.
